classic

This is a true classic comedy. I think it's the best of the Nat. Lampoon movies. This is the blueprint for all college hijinx movies to follow.
Does the new release include forced commercials?

Has anyone bought the new (October 2008) DVD release of this classic movie? Does it still contain the five minutes of uninterruptable commercials like previous editions had? Thank you.
A Comedy That Ages Well Due To Its Great Cast!
December 31, 2008Frederick Baptist (Singapore)
Everyone raves about Belushi's work here and rightly so but people tend to forget about the great work of the rest of the cast who went on to even greater comedic and dramatic heights such as Stephen Furst who is brilliant here as Flounder who went on to become Vir on the excellent "Babylon 5" series as well as Kevin Bacon (Footloose etc), Karen Allen (Indiana Jones etc), Tom Hulce (Amadeus)and the rest which is what makes this a rare example of a comedy that retains a lot of its ability to make us laugh over the years and hence age well.
If you like your comedies in the "Police Academy" and its many sequels ilk then this one will amuse you no end and ranks among the best ever of the National Lampoon franchise. The Special Feature mockumentary "Where Are They Now?..." is amusing as well although not quite as good as the main course humour-wise and "The Yearbook: An Animal House Reunion" is also a very nice touch. The dvd itself is decent although I regret now getting the Full Screen version which does seem to omit a lot of the original film and the picture quality although not the best I've seen is mostly free from the usual imperfections such as white spots etc and the sound quality has been given the 5.1 surround sound treatment although this hasn't improved the quality that much.
Overall though this is an acceptable dvd version of a funny comedy that ages well although you may want to wait for a better restored and remastered picture and sound quality version in anamorphic widescreen format perhaps in a Director's Cut if John Landis ever gets the time to do such a project to surface in either the standard or preferably the Blu-ray format.

My reviews are the best on Amazon...

but in this case, I defer to Andrew who wrote exactly what I thought, so that saves me some time. Oh, you have to sort "most recent first" or you wont know what I'm on about.
So what if you have to sit through a few ads? Go and spend the time shaping a sheet into an adhoc toga, stocking up on beer and ensuring your wife doesn't have a film ruining list of "jobs" for you to do.
Belushi is a colossus, his performance is Brando-esque and the clip where he gives his motivational speech about "no-one gave up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbour.." I have seen as part of a lecture on Leadership at Officer Training School. The only flaw I would pick in this film is that University just isn't that good, and as a result, generations of students have been disappointed. Also the lyrics to Louie Louie are still as mysterious as they ever were.
In summary, if you had to pick 10 films to take down into the bomb shelter with you, Animal House would be essential. Put it this way, turn up at my bomb shelter without it and you aint getting in!
