How About A Re-release Of This As A True Mc Cartney Concert Without All The Audience Shots and Interviews?
January 1, 2009Eugene B. (Houston, TX USA)
How many people would like to see this Blu-ray McCartney concert re-released as a true concert experience without all the interviews and audience shots? I would hope original camera tapes are available somewhere. Hopefully they isoed each camera individually to it's own individual recording tape when this captured live on tape. That would have been the smart way to record such an event. That way they can cut to any tape at any time they want in post production.
I think the audio needs a little work also. To me it seems a little overmodulated on 2 channel and there's not much punch in the bass.
Anyone with a good system notice not much bass?
Nice Show, Too many audience cuts, Specified Dolby Digital Missing

Those using optical or coaxial audio connections beware that the specifications (even on the label of the disc jacket) are wrong.
This disc does NOT have Dolby Digital (or ANY non-PCM) multi-channel tracks, which means that only stereo PCM is sent over the above legacy digital connections.
Certainly an A/V receiver or pre/pro can convert the two-channel into pro-logic or other DSP to imitate a multi-channel ambience but that is not what this multi-channel disc should be.
Ironically, a person looking at the disc jacket at the local store would make the same mistake because the specified Dolby Digital track is missing. Such track is useful to many millions of legacy A/V receivers not having HDMI or not using multiple 6-8 analog cables.
A similar case is the Elton John Blu-ray. They have chosen to only include PCM tracks and ignore millions of multichannel listeners with legacy A/V receivers with typical optical/coaxial digital inputs by not including any Dolby or DTS track on the discs.
The performance was very nice and much better than one recently aired on one paid channel where Paul's voice was not up there. His voice on this disc is much better and the group made a good representation of the original cords/songs without major transformation, which is what my memory since the 60s wanted to hear live with the original writer, hopefully not the last time.
The quality of the video was good; I even projected it on a 135-inch screen in CinemaScope format to provide the impression of an even wider stage without changing geometry of the image objects (using anamorphic lenses). It was like being there.
The director seemed to have the objective of showing the audience reactions at almost every other cord, which to my eyes was a bit too distracting. I was wishing that the camera would stop doing so many shifts between audience and stage, and sit still a bit longer to show Paul perform as one would experience at the actual event.
But overall is a good show to keep and to repeat viewing, because he is not getting any younger and his compositions and performing style are to be heard and viewed from only him to satisfy good memories of the past 50 years.

The Next best thing to seeing him in person

I have to admit Paul has never been my favorite Beatle. Paul however is the last of the Beatles who wrote music.
I do enjoy many songs Paul has written with the Beatles, with Wings and as a solo performer.
What you have here is history. Paul McCartney and John Lennon are the two greatest composers/writers of the last century.
This is a chance to see one of the Masters displaying why he is so popular and fameous.
Paul opens the show with Hello, Goodbye and it just goes uphill from there.
Another thing that was cool was how he ended a song with Foxy Lady, the old Jimi Hendrix tune.
He does Beatles classics like Got to get you into my life and Penny Lane, among others.
To me the hightlight of the show was when he did Jenny Wren and English Tea for the current album.
He also closes the show with Yesterday and other big hits from the Beatles days.
This is not as good as seeing him in person, but it is the next best thing.

Paul's peformance during this tour is still strong. The tracklist of the concerts are mainly beatles songs and they sound pretty good.
The edition of this DVD is not what real fans wait: not a complete concert set (again). I wonder why Macca keeps on doing this; doesn't he know there are special features sections in order to insert all that stuff he likes to add?
The band is Ok, though I particulary don't like the 'show-man' drumer at all.
