3 out of 5 stars Funny-scary   August 29, 2010
James R. Gilligan (Lafayette, IN United States)
Horror movie spoofs are becoming pretty common--some of them are great ("Scream"), while others are just forgettable. The really good ones manage to both spoof the genre and simultaneously exploit its effectiveness. "Zombieland" does just that. The main character has developed a list of rules for surviving a zombie apocalypse, which we can easily assume he has developed from watching lots and lots of zombie movies. These rules flash on the screen at strategic moments, and we come to appreciate their wisdom. The plot, although clever and amusing, is subordinate to the characters here--Jesse Eisenberg as our hero (who suffers from Irritable Bowel Syndrome, a definite handicap when one is fighting zombies), Woody Harrelson as the bad-ass who's hiding deep sorrow, Abigail Breslin (yes, the girl from "Little Miss Sunshine") as a rough tween who fears nothing, and Bill Murray in a hysterical but all-too-brief cameo. This one is good scary fun.

5 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise   August 20, 2010
E. Geist (USA)
I love finding a great movie that I hadn't expected to be good. Most comedy zombie movies have disappointed me, to the point that I avoided this one for months. I'm in the minority, but I hated Shaun of the Dead. Consequently, I skipped past this one every time I saw it in the Redbox. Eventually, the reviews convinced me it was worth a rental, and I was so glad I was wrong.

The ultra-slow motion beginning credits pulled me in right away, almost as good a beginning as the Dawn of the Dead remake. Columbus's rules for survival were very funny, and the rest of the characters were well done. I particularly liked Emma Stone's character. Unpredictable, fast moving, well-written dialogue. I'm glad I finally watched this particular zombie comedy.

The cast is killer! I'll never get sick of watching this flick. Be sure to have Twinkies on hand... you understand once you watch it. ;-)

5 out of 5 stars Aren't you going to limber up?......   August 10, 2010

This movie is too funny....love it! The only wish is there where more zombie action, but other than that classic...with the occasional surprise! Can't really go wrong with some thing that has Woody Harrelson, and of course a great cameo from Bill Murray! Great comedy horror watch! I did see in the theatre and it was well worth the price of addmission! Woody is looking good!
