Wagon Train June 21, 2010 Ron Braxton (Greenville, NC) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Thanks Amazon for making it possible for the western fans to see one of our favorite television programs. The product was delivered in a timely manner with no problems. For those fans who have not yet purchased this series, you must remember that the producers do not make shows like they did in the fifties and sixties anymore. My family and friends are always commenting how rich the stories are filled with good moral values like honor and duty and courtesy. We are greatly impressed to see how determine the characters were to make a living even with many setbacks. Viewing the episodes can help tremendously in encouraging someone to be determine to survive with today's problems. Wagon Train is that kind of program. It is very uplifting.
More Major Adams, please! June 14, 2010 Thomas S. Inge (Richmond, VA USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Is it possible to make a finer Western? I don't think so. I loved this show as a kid and still love it all these years later. In the first season, Bill Hawks has a wife, and we learn that he and Charlie Wooster fought under Major Adams for the Union during the Civil War. Flint McCullough was from Virginia and fought for the Confederacy. We get to see Wooster without a beard in the earliest episodes, and he is called "Chuck" rather than "Charlie."
If I had been journeying west back in those days, I would certainly have wanted Major Adams guiding my party. He was a gruff, but fair, man, with excellent leadership skills. Ward Bond, Robert Horton, Frank McGrath, and Terry Wilson were all excellent in their roles, and I hope that Timeless Media will be releasing more seasons.
I would like to add that I had no problems with my discs.
wonderful entertainment June 5, 2010 daisy fan (pa usa) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
due to reviews of how the disc are packaged, i waited on purchasing this item, though wagon train's been on my wish list years before "timeless" gave thought to production of this....
when the price was drastically reduced, fearing that it may one day be discontinued by the manufacturer, i went ahead and bought it...i thought, just how bad can the disc be packed...
it is that bad, discs are solidly packed into a cut out cardboard, 1/2 pocket in the front where you slowly pry the disc out....i cannot believe there is a brain out there that thought this disc packaging was a good idea.......
having said that, i am still happy i bought this set, if you are a wagon train fan, my goodness, this is a must have...however a couple of my disc on observation after releasing them from the cardboard, do have a few scuff marks, i am certain these were made during the packing and not the un-packing by me....
i have watched disc 1 and disc 2, there are a few spots that freeze, then continue, i dont know if it is due to the scuff marks or it was produced that way.....I WOULD APPRECIATE IF SOMEONE OUT THERE WOULD LET ME KNOW IF THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM....
discs are not going back into the cardboard, i put them in double sided slimcases, 5 cases hold all 10 disc, stored them in the tin, rubber band around the slimcases and the tin, disc are now safe.. please folks, dont even attempt to re-insert these discs into the original cardboard.....
if you are on the fence about buying this, jump over and do it, solid packed pure entertainment the way TV was designed to be, i get goosebumps watching flint mccullough ride the plains again, enjoy, "Wagons Ho"
Roll the wagons for season Two May 17, 2010 Terry T (New Zealand) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have loved this programme forever - it was one of the best westerns when television finally hit New Zealand in the early sixties - to have the first season - in a tin no less - is just a dream come true - I'm just so over the moon to have it in my collection - needless to say I thoroughly recommend this series to one and all.
The stories are great - look for the guest stars - and the quality of the film is great - compare this with the last series of Laramie - another of my favourite westerns - but the quality of the transfer was way below standard - not something you have to worry about with Wagon Train.
Somewhat greedily now awaiting season two - I hope it's not a long wait - I've only 10 years to my pension !!!
Amazon's wonderful service made sure this wonderful set arrived before time and in good condition
