This movie is one of the greats, because it isn't the computer-generated flicks that are very popular today. But it just has good old-fashioned story lines and plots with a slight twist, that's not too complicated to follow.

Also I have to say many thanks to you TvBoxset for ALWAYS providing the best price, fastest shipping and just the greatest variety of products!

I love Angela Bassett - she's one of my favorite actresses and one who is completed underrated. She's beautiful, timeless, classy and absolutely needs to be in more films than so many of these young "starlets." The chemistry between Ms. Bassett and Kevin Anderson was tense and sexy. The aching especially in his heart for her was very evident. I wished the film had focused more on the 2 of them rather than so many other things. But it couldn't happen because they were both dealing with unhappy and in many ways, sad marriages. Ruby really shows her vulnerability with Billy Dupre when she explains to him that her husband has left. And then when he's singing that song to her and can't quit looking at her at the bar (about being in love), WOW! I've seen Kevin Anderson before and he is good looking and has a great voice. They were trying to escape together. It wasn't meant to be; not in the 1960's when racial tensions were so high; in a sense it was redemptive because his death causes Ruby to leave the juke joint to begin a new life with her daughter.

I don't know what Kevin Anderson is currently doing, but I would love to see them in another film together. They have great chemistry!!!!

I love Angela Bassett, and she does it again in this drama that captures the psychosexual tension infusing race relations in early 1960s America.
Bassett plays Ruby Delacroix, the owner of a juke joint known as Ruby's Bucket of Blood; when her regular black male singer is unable to show up one evening, Ruby begrudgingly agrees to let a white man (Kevin Anderson)
named Billy Dupre take his place. Ruby's husband deserts her, and Billy's
wife is mentally ill, so their immediate spouses are conveniently unavailable. This allows their forbidden affair to slowly develop, as shown by their furtive glances and unmistakable body language. The other
characters serve to fill in the gaps, and this film is a sultry drama
in which the anger and violence aren't gratuitous. There's just enough to make it believable. It's immensely enjoyable and I hope you take the time to watch it.

I love angela basset she is a brilliant actor I added the movie to my collection but i don't think the plot warrented murder but I am happy with the ending Jurnee Smollet is one beautiful actor
