I miss this show!
January 6, 2009J. J Woehr (Lindenhurst, NY United States)
I think NBC made a very careless decision to cancel this show with no Series Finale. Especially by ending it on a To Be Continued. Hell, they were even going to cancel Scrubs with no Series finale after that was on even more years than Las Vegas, "too bad ABC didn't pick up Las Vegas as well". That goes to show just how un-loyal NBC is to the fans of their shows. Strike, or no writers strike, it was still a pretty dumb decision. The re-runs are even doing well on TNT. There's not many shows that aren't Law and Order that are on 2 hours each day. It's doing much better than Alias re-runs did on the network.
I miss the Las Vegas atmosphere as well as the cast. James Caan was great as Ed, the head boss of the casino. Sure, he was gone the last season and I missed him then but the show still had some life in it with Tom Sellack taking his place. Josh Duhamel also is good as Danny, the top security guy who made the mistake of sleeping with Ed's daughter Delinda (Molly Sims) in the series premiere. James Lesure is fun as Danny's partner who's in charge of security cameras. While all the women are sexy and entertaining. Nikki Cox plays Mary, Danny's childhood best friend who secretly loves him.
I always thought that Vanessa Marcil was the sexiest though as Sam who's ahead of making sure the guests are happy. However, after seeing the first seasons on TNT, my favorite would have to be Marsha Thomason as Nessa Holt who Ed raised since childhood. She has a sexy voice and to me she's the most likable. Too bad she was only in 2 seasons. Mary could whine sometimes and be overly confrontational with Danny in some episodes. While Delinda lives off her daddies money and wouldn't even have a job without him.
The cameos in the first season were great as well. Jean-Claude Van Damme makes a funny appearance as himself and the episode takes a turn that you don't expect it to. You also get an appearance by Alec Baldwin as a long time friend of Ed's. Jon Lovitz also appears as a suicidal guest that Ed and Danny cheer up by getting him into gambling. His 2nd appearance in the show is a little better than his first though. He's more serious in his first appearance. He's funnier the 2nd time around. Which isn't until the 2nd season I think. In all, Las Vegas was a fun show and Friday TV nights have been boring ever since it was canceled.
Two Reasons Not To Buy This From A Fan
September 24, 2008L. Palumbo
I am a fan of this show and I think the best seasons are 2 and 3. This show is truly a guilty pleasure. However, I have two very good reasons why you should not buy this DVD set or any other Las Vegas season for that matter. I just hope tvboxset publishes this review.
Reason 1: You can watch them free on TNT everyday (weekdays at noon). If you have a DVR, you can record them all in high definition on TNT. This show is syndicated and TNT loops the show over and over. Again, TNT shows every episode from season one to the very last episode of the last season (which by the way is the worst series finale in television history). This leads me to my second reason for not buying any of these DVD sets.....
Reason 2: It has no ending or closure. NBC, showing little care for it's fans and the network's audience, pulled this show for financial reasons. When they pulled this show, they decided not to film or air the final episodes which would have closed out the series properly. Instead you are left with a cliffhanger that never gets completed. Las Vegas fans are outraged. You can watch every season and every single episode and be wondering what happens next, only to be left with one of the worst ending ever. This show was pulled from NBC's lineup due to bad ratings. The fact that it aired on Friday nights was the very reason for the poor ratings and not the quality of the series by any means. Don't you want your DVD sets to have an ending? Since NBC will not provide fans with an ending due to financials and ratings, why should you give them your $30? They don't deserve it.
Watch them for free on TNT. If you want to start from the beginning of the series, wait until they air the episode title "Pilot" and watch or record the episodes everyday at noon on TNT.
I am a true fan of this show and NBC angered me when they pulled the plug on this one. They could have at least let the creators give the show a proper ending for the fans.

If you like Las Vegas and Gambling you will love the footage in this season. Lots of pictures in the casino and a lot of action going on.
Characters are great.
