5 out of 5 stars a unique show with unique characters    January 9, 2009

OK, first of all, let's get something straight for all the negative reviewers out there who hated this show. Before you order or watch it, be advised, this is NOT some sappy, feel-good comedy (or drama) suitable for the whole family. It's an offbeat, different, quirky and sometimes a little strange adult dramedy. That being said, I loved it! I also loved Joan of Arcadia, but this is NOT to be compared with that show (or any other). I think too many people who disliked this show were expecting something more Disney-like and... that it ain't! Although it's a fantasy, the main character, Jaye Tyler, is at times a slacker, a pessimist, a born loser, and a general disappointment to her family. But that's what makes it so interesting that the messages from the talking objects should be directed at her. Unlike Joan of Arcadia, you're never quite sure if it's all in her head or some greater force is at work here. And, unlike Joan, Jaye's goal in life seems to be getting by by doing as little as required of her and being as unhelpful to those around her as possible. Sound familiar? We all know people like this. Why is everyone who hated the show so surprised by a character like this? I'd like everyone to judge this show on it's own merits and stop trashing it after watching just the first episode because it wasn't quite what they'd expected!

5 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Discovery    December 24, 2008

Thanks to Netflix, I have discovered this quirky, smart series. It is truly original, which is something that is rare on TV these days. A delight that met its demise far too soon.

5 out of 5 stars Awesomely awesome!!! Wait is awesomely a word?    December 19, 2008

Another fox show cut off in its prime. This series had several actors and actress that have really made it. This series is quirky x 3, over falling water and inanimate objects that talk, wait am I giving too much away? Anyhow, it's basically a story of how everyone is trying to find themselves but they are not always where they think they will be, understand? But how can they be when a bear in a barrel is talking to them or a wax lion for that matter. I dunno, I've watched this series over and over, still I revel in its frivolousness.

5 out of 5 stars Of course    November 2, 2008

Of course a show this delightful wouldn't endure.
It says much about some of the state of entertainment when something my husband and I are enjoying is something we turn to each other and say, "Great show, shame it won't last."
Too often, we're right. But thanks to life after death via DVD, we can remain fans of material we recognized as quality and inventive programming. The Andy Partridge theme song, the cinematic visuals, the characters that seem broadly drawn but have more going on, it all adds up to magic.
I'm very happy to own Wonderfalls. I still remain dazzled by the fact that this gem escaped notice.
